Naomi, Wynonna recall sexual abuse

NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Country music star Naomi Judd and her daughter Wynonna said on "The View" in New York they were once victims of sexual abuse.

Their revelations came days after actress Ashley Judd, also Naomi's daughter, published a memoir in which she claims she was molested by a stranger in a pizza parlor and was the victim of incest at the hands of an unnamed relative.

Ashley Judd implied in her book that her mother was to blame for the bad things that happened to her because she was preoccupied with her career and romantic relationships rather than with being a mother.

"I grew up in a family of secrets," TVGuide.com quoted Naomi Judd as saying on Thursday's edition of "The View."

During their appearance on the talk show, both Naomi and Wynonna said they were too ashamed to talk about their experiences until now.

"I am so sick and tired of the problem being discussed on TV. I want to be part of the solution," Wynonna said.

"The veil has been lifted. There are no more secrets. We can now live in truth."

TVGuide.com reported Naomi recalled on the show how her first memory was of being abused, but she said she didn't discuss the recollection with her therapist until two years ago.

The mother-daughter duo said they have not read Ashley's book.

Naomi and Wynonna are to star in a new OWN reality series called "The Judds," starting Sunday.
