LOS ANGELES, April 7 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery Homicide Division says the investigation into rapper Biggie Smalls's 1997 shooting death remains open.

Smalls, whose real name was Christopher Wallace and who was also known professionally as the Notorious B.I.G., was killed outside the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles after a party. He was 24.

"We have followed up on all of the leads we have at this time to the best of our ability. If anything new comes along we will certainly look at it," LAPD Capt. Kevin McClure told the Los Angeles Times.

An FBI probe into the slaying was wrapped up in 2005, with no convictions made in connection with Smalls's death.

LAPD and FBI memos, witness statements and stakeout notes related to the investigation were posted on the FBI's Web site this week, however, the Times said the bureau redacted the names and affiliations of many of the informants and witnesses mentioned in the documents.
