NEW YORK, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- New York state has issued two safety violations against the injury-plagued musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," an official says.
A state Labor Department official, speaking anonymously, told The New York Times no financial penalties have been levied against the hugely expensive Julie Taymor production, but it must keep safety procedures put in place after an accident in December.
Christopher Tierney, one of several stunt actors portraying the hero, fell from a platform into a basement and fractured four ribs, a shoulder blade and three vertebrae and sustained a hairline skull fracture. He is getting physical rehabilitation.
Safety officials will continue surprise inspections, and if inspectors find violations they can withdraw variances issued last year allowing aerial stunts over the audience, the official said.
The accidents cited in the violations occurred on stage, not over the audience.
Two other performers were hurt in a sling-shot maneuver that catapults performers from the back of the stage to its lip.
"Spider-Man" is still in an unusually long preview and is now officially scheduled to open March 15.
