LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- John Mellencamp's publicist says the U.S. recording star and Elaine, his wife of 18 years, have separated and plan to divorce.
The singer and model married in September 1992 and have two teenage sons together.
"John and Elaine Mellencamp are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family," the couple's representative said in a statement issued to The Hollywood Reporter Thursday. "They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple."
