PHOENIX, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Jailed rapper DMX has been moved to the Arizona Department of Corrections Flamenco Mental Health Unit at Alhambra, prison officials said.
The 40-year-old hip-hop star, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced to a year in jail Dec. 16 after he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his probation.
Billboard.com quoted Judge Christine Mulleneaux as telling Simmons at his sentencing she believes he has "an undiagnosed mental condition," possibly bi-polar disorder.
This is the 13th time Simmons has been incarcerated in connection with assault, weapons, drugs or animal-cruelty arrests.
Billboard.com said the performer was admitted to the mental health unit Dec. 20. What exactly brought him there, what he is being treated for and when he is expected to be discharged were not reported.
