NEW YORK, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- U.S. rapper Kanye West says he canceled an upcoming appearance on "Today" because he didn't like how the show treated him during an interview this week.

During a chat with Matt Lauer, West was shown footage of former U.S. President George W. Bush expressing how upset he was when West said he didn't care about black people in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A clip of West interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards show in 2009 was also played during Lauer's sit-down with West.

UsMagazine.com said West pulled out of a planned post-Thanksgiving appearance on "Today" because of the way the producers brought the topics up in the interview.

"I'm not performing on the Today Show for obvious reasons," West tweeted Friday.

"I don't hate Matt Lauer. We don't promote hate. That's the whole point!!! I promote love and truth!" West said. "All positive energy... all smiles. Much love to Matt and the whole Today Show."
