LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) -- The judges on "American Idol" used their once-a-season save option to spare Michael "Big Mike" Lynche from elimination Wednesday night.

Lynche, 26, earned the least amount of viewer votes after his performance Tuesday of the song "Eleanor Rigby."

"We have decided we're going to see you next week," the New York Daily News quoted judge Simon Cowell as saying when he announced Lynche would be spared after the four-judge panel unanimously agreed.

Two contestants will be eliminated from Season 9 of the singing competition series next week, however.
