NEW YORK, April 8 (UPI) -- Aerosmith says it will perform with fellow Boston rockers The J. Geils Band at Fenway Park this summer.

Scheduled for Aug. 14, this marks the first time the acts will collaborate on stage.

The announcement of the "Double Play" event was made by Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler and J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf during the Red Sox/Yankees game Wednesday night.

"Sox fans look out! You've got a grand slam with Aerosmith and J. Geils and we're going to rock it over the Green Monster," Tyler told the crowd.

Tyler previously performed "God Bless America" at Fenway Park at last Sunday's Red Sox/Yankees game.

"When I heard that Aerosmith would be playing Fenway Park this summer, naturally I freaked out. Then I heard it was going to be with The J. Geils Band," Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry said in a statement. "I knew that this is an event that I, like all hard core Bostonians, have been waiting for for 40 years. There have been other shows at Fenway Park, but this one is going to leave them all behind because it's going to rock so hard the Green Monster will crack and they will have to keep the Citgo sign together with duct tape and glue.

"The biggest problem for me is that I can't be on stage and in the audience at the same time. I'll definitely be in the audience watching J. Geils's performance."
