NEW YORK, April 7 (UPI) -- The Songwriters Hall of Fame says it plans to present producer Phil Ramone with the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award at its upcoming ceremony in New York.
The gala dinner is scheduled to take place June 17 at Manhattan's Marriott Marquis Hotel.
"Phil Ramone represents the perfect choice as a recipient of our Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award," Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Hal David said in a statement Wednesday. "We are looking forward to applauding his many varied accomplishments that have, both past and presently, influenced the craft and careers of music history's finest artists."
Ramone has earned 34 Grammy nominations, 14 Grammy Awards and an Emmy during his decades-long career. He helped create hit songs such as Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It," "Uptown Girl" and "Modern Woman," as well as Paul Simon's "Late In The Evening" and Julian Lennon's "Too Late for Goodbyes." He has worked with Bono, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Quincy Jones, BB King, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Sting, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor, among others.
