The agency said he died Monday at a hospital in Mendoza.

Sanchez's health had been failing since he underwent a heart and lung transplant in November, Telam said.

The recording artist, whose hits included "Asi" and "Dame Fuego," was the first Latin American artist to sing at New York's Madison Square Garden in the 1970s. He also starred in 16 films, the BBC noted.
