LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel said following his first concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic that he longs for international unity.
The Los Angeles Times said after Dudamel concluded Saturday's "Bienvenido Gustavo!" concert at the Hollywood Bowl, the 28-year-old new Philharmonic music director called for Central, South and North America to be seen as one unified continent of people.
Saturday's performance marked Dudamel's first time back at the Hollywood Bowl since 2005, when he made his U.S. debut as a conductor.
Joining Dudamel on stage as part of the Philharmonic's performance of pieces by composer Ludwig van Beethoven were vocalists such as Measha Brueggergosman and Michelle DeYoung, along with members of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
The Times said also working with Dudamel on Saturday night were nearly 100 young members of the YOLA Expo Centre Youth Orchestra, who joined the composer for a version of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy."
