'Despicable Me 4' minions create A.I. art in Super Bowl teaser

Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Illumination is gearing up for the release of Despicable Me 4.

The studio shared a teaser for the animated film Sunday that aired during Super Bowl LVIII.

Despicable Me 4 is a sequel to Despicable Me 3 (2017) and the sixth film in the Despicable Me franchise.

Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig return to voice Gru and Lucy in the sequel, which will see the couple and their three girls welcome a new member to the family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad.

"Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run," an official synopsis reads.

Joey King, Stephen Colbert and Chloe Fineman join the cast, with Pierre Coffin to return to voice the minions.

The teaser, titled "Minion Intelligence," shows the minions create A.I. art that exhibits flaws of the technology, including an image of hands with extra fingers.

Despicable Me 4 is written by Mike White and Ken Daurio and directed by Chris Renaud. The film opens in theaters July 3.
