May 20 (UPI) -- Tilda Swinton is offered three wishes from Idris Elba in the latest trailer for Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Swinton stars as academic Dr. Alithea Binnie who is content with life when she unleashes a Djinn, or genie, played by Elba in the clip released on Friday.

Alithea is weary of the Djinn and is aware of all the cautionary literary tales about making wishes. The Djinn in turn tells her stories of the past to convince her that the wishes will indeed come true.

"Eventually she is beguiled and makes a wish that surprises them both," reads the synopsis.

George Miller (Mad Max) is serving as director and wrote the script with his stepdaughter Augusta Gore.

The film is based on the A.S. Byatt short story The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye.

Three Thousand Years of Longing is coming to theaters on Aug. 31.
