Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures announced the release of Bros on Aug. 12, 2022. Billy Eichner wrote and stars in the romantic-comedy.

Eichner created the unscripted TV series Billy on the Street. Bros is his first produced feature film screenplay. Eichner's love interest has not yet been cast.

Universal describes the film as "a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about finding sex, love and romance amidst the madness." The studio adds that the film is about two gay men perhaps falling in love, but both being otherwise busy.

Universal touts Bros as the first studio released romantic comedy starring gay men. Gay rom-coms like Jeffrey and Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss were independent films.

Eichner also becomes the first openly gay man to co-write and star in a major studio film. Nicholas Stoller co-wrote with Eichner and will direct Bros. Judd Apatow, Stoller and Joshua Church produce with Eichner as executive producer.

Currently, Eichner can be seen playing Matt Drudge on Impeachment: American Crime Story. He previously voiced Timon in 2019's The Lion King and starred on the Hulu series Difficult People, and Netflix's Friends From College.
