June 25 (UPI) -- Simu Liu's Shang-Chi is being tested by his father Wenwu (Tony Leung) in the latest trailer for Marvel's next superhero epic, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The origin of Shang-Chi and how his father, also known as The Mandarin, wields the powerful Ten Rings in explored in the clip released on Thursday.
Wenwu explains how the Ten Rings are passed down through their family and that Shang-Chi will have to show that he is strong enough to wield them. Shang-Chi attempts to live a normal life but quickly realizes it will be impossible.
Shang-Chi fights off a group of assassins sent by Wenwu, comes face-to-face with a dragon underwater and fights his father.
"You're just a criminal who murders people," Shang-Chi says to Wenwu. "Be careful how you speak to me, boy," his father responds.
The trailer ends with Shang-Chi getting ready to face Hulk villain Abomination inside of a cage.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, from director Destin Daniel, is coming to theaters on Sept. 3.
Co-stars include Awkwafina, Fala Chen, Meng'er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh.
