June 9 (UPI) -- Searchlight Pictures is giving a glimpse of the new film The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
The preview shows Jim (Garfield) and Tammy Faye (Chastain) build the world's largest religious broadcasting network. The couple's life and marriage begins to fall apart due to financial improprieties, a sex scandal and other secrets.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye is based on the documentary of the same name by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato. The movie follows the rise, fall and redemption of Jim and Tammy during the 1970s and '80s.
The new film is directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) and co-stars Cherry Jones, Vincent D'Onofrio, Fredric Lehne, Mark Wystrach and Sam Jaeger.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye will open in theaters Sept. 17.
