'While at War,' 'Pain and Glory' lead Goya Award nominations

Dec. 2 (UPI) -- While at War and Pain and Glory lead nominations for the 34th annual Goya Academy Awards, Spain's main ceremony to honor film.

While at War earned 17 nominations followed by Pain and Glory with 16 and The Endless Trench with 15.

Best Film will be decided between While at War, Pain and Glory, The Endless Trench, Out in the Open and Fire Will Come. Pedro Almodovar for Pain and Glory, Aitor Arregui, Jon Garano and Jose Mari Goenaga for The Endless Trench, Oliver Laxe for Fire Will Come and Alejandro Amenabar for While at War are nominated for Best Director.

Antonio Banderas is nominated for Best Actor for his role in Pain and Glory alongside Karra Elejalde for While at War, Antonio de la Torre for The Endless Trench and Luis Tosar for Eye for an Eye. Best Actress includes Penelope Cruz for Pain and Glory, Great Fernandez for A Thief's Daughter, Marta Nieto for Mother and Belen Cuesta for The Endless Trench.

Nathalie Poza is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in While at War along with Julieta Serrano for Pain and Glory, Mona Martinez for Adios and Natalia de Molina for Adios. Best Supporting Actor includes Luis Callejo for Out in the Open, Eduard Fernandez for While at War, Asier Etxeandia for Pain and Glory and Leonardo Sbaraglia for Pain and Glory.

Pain and Glory, While at War, The Platform and The Endless Trench were nominated for Best Original Screenplay with Out in the Open, Mother, Advantages of Traveling by Train and Bunuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles were nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Goya Awards are set to take place on Jan. 25 in Malaga, Spain.
