Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Jason Momoa trains to become a hero in the final trailer for Warner Bros. and DC Comic's upcoming underwater epic, Aquaman.

The clip, released Monday, dives into the origins of Aquaman (Momoa) and how he is the offspring of a human, Tom Curry (Temuera Morrison) and Queen Atlanna of Atlantis (Nicole Kidman).

Aquaman is trained from a young age on how to fight and how to navigate the ocean by Vulko (Willem Dafoe). He also learns of a mystical trident that can rebuild Atlantis and help the underwater kingdom maintain peace with the surface world.

Aquaman, with help from Princess Mera (Amber Heard), seeks out the trident as he attempts to stop his half-brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson), who hopes to wage war with the surface world. Ruthless mercenary Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) also makes an apperance as he battles with the titular hero.

"My parents made me what I am. I am the protector of the deep," Aquaman says.

Aquaman, from director James Wan, is set to arrive in theaters on Dec. 21.
