June 21 (UPI) -- Paramount is developing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film that will relaunch the studio's movie franchise based on the popular crimefighters.

Paramount has tapped screenwriter Andrew Dodge to write the script that will reboot the series following the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2014 and its sequel, 2016's Out of the Shadows, Variety reported.

Dodge is known for penning 2014 comedy Bad Words starring Jason Bateman who also directed the film.

Filmmaker Michael Bay will be returning to produce the project under his Platinum Dunes banner alongside Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

The Ninja Turtles are also set to be rebooted on television with a new animated series featuring a different take on the iconic heroes in a half-shell arriving on Nickelodeon in September. The voice cast includes Ben Schwartz as Leonardo, Kat Graham as April O'Neil, Josh Brener as Donatello, Brandon Mychal Smith as Michelangelo, Omar Miller as Raphael and Eric Bauza as master Splinter along with WWE star John Cena as a new villain named Baron Draxum.
