Reese Witherspoon confirms 'Legally Blonde 3' in video

June 7 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon says Legally Blonde 3 is officially a go.

The 42-year-old actress, who played Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and its sequel, confirmed the news in a cute video Thursday on Instagram.

The clip shows Witherspoon floating in a pool while wearing sunglasses and a pink bikini. Her look is similar to one Elle wears in the first Legally Blonde movie.

"It's true... #LegallyBlonde3," she captioned the post.

Legally Blonde opened in theaters 2001, and was followed by Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde in 2003. Deadline reported Monday that Witherspoon was in final talks for a third film.

Legally Blonde is based on the Amanda Brown novel of the same name. Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, who adapted the book for the first movie, are said to be in final negotiations to write the new script.

In addition, original producer Marc Platt will reportedly return to produce. Witherspoon will also produce through her Hello Sunshine production banner.
