June 6 (UPI) -- Chelsea Peretti will star in the new comedy film Spinster.

The 40-year-old actress and comedian said in a tweet Tuesday she's "excited" to play the lead in the new movie.

Spinster follows a woman, played by Peretti, who faces her fear of becoming a spinster after being dumped on her 39th birthday, according to Deadline. Filming is underway in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Andrea Dorfman is directing the film from an original screenplay by Jennifer Deyell. Marc Tetreault, William Woods, Jay Dahl and Bill Niven are serving as producers.

"We're happy to have Chelsea onboard," Tetreault said, according to Variety. "Her energy and wit will make the main character someone you want to root for."

Peretti is known for playing Gina Linetti on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which will move from Fox to NBC for its sixth season. She also performs as a stand-up comedian, and starred in the Netflix comedy special Chelsea Peretti: One of the Greats.
