June 5 (UPI) -- Bricksburg is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland like the one seen in Mad Max in the first trailer for upcoming animated sequel, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

The clip, released Tuesday, features returning character Emmet (Chris Pratt) who despite having to deal with horrible living conditions, continues to have a positive outlook on life, much to the dismay of Lucy (Elizabeth Banks).

After an alien visitor comes and kidnaps Lucy, Emmet forms a team that also includes Lego Batman (Will Arnett) in order to go rescue her. The gang then soon finds themselves entering into deep space.

"The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It's been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from out space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild," reads the synopsis.

"The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the Lego universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are," it continues.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part will arrive in theaters on Feb. 8, 2019.
