The film will mark the feature-length debut of director Jeff Fowler who is best known for helming 2005 Oscar-nominated short Gopher Broke, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Pat Casey and Josh Miller penned the first draft of the script with Oren Uziel writing the most recent draft. Deadpool director Tim Miller is executive producing.

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to race into theaters on Nov. 15, 2019.

Video game maker Sega first published Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. The series to date has sold more than 360 million copies across various gaming platforms. Sega on Wednesday announced a new Sonic game titled Team Sonic Racing.

Marsden currently stars on HBO's sci-fi drama Westworld as Teddy.
