May 25 (UPI) -- Logan helmer James Mangold is set to write and direct a Star Wars spinoff film centered around one of the galaxy's most feared bounty hunters, Boba Fett, according to reports.

Disney and Lucasfilm are developing the Boba Fett film alongside a movie focused on Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Mangold, who is also known for directing Walk the Line, Knight and Day and 3:10 to Yuma, will be working alongside X-Men series writer and producer Simon Kinberg on the Boba Fett project, Variety reported, citing sources.

Boba Fett first appeared in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and then again in 1983's Return of the Jedi as the bounty hunter who delivered Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to gangster Jabba the Hutt. He was portrayed by Jeremy Bulloch with Jason Wingreen providing his voice.

The origins of the fan-favorite character, known for using a jetpack and donning battle-tested armor, was explored in 2002's Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones which featured Fett's bounty hunting father, Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison).

News of the Boba Fett film comes as Solo: A Star Wars Story featuring Alden Ehrenreich in the title role, reaches theaters on Friday.
