March 9 (UPI) -- Benedict Cumberbatch provides the voice for The Grinch in the first trailer for Illumination Entertainment's upcoming animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

The clip, released Thursday, features the grouchy, green character going through his daily routine alongside his dog Max.

The Grinch is then seen causing trouble inside a Whoville supermarket by making a jar of jelly wanted by a customer fall to the ground and placing nasty pickles into a customers cart.

The Christmas-hating Grinch gets what he deserves when he gets punched in the face by an inflatable snowman.

Universal Pictures and Illumination (Despicable Me, Secret Life of Pets) is set to release The Grinch on Nov. 9. "The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl's generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it's a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism," reads the synopsis.

The Grinch was previously adapted into animated television film in 1966 and as a live-action film starring Jim Carrey in 2000.
