Jan. 23 (UPI) -- John Cena is being eyed to star in a film adaptation of the Duke Nukem video series at Paramount.

The WWE Superstar is in negotiations to appear in the project from Platinum Dunes, the production company run by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, Variety reported.

No director is attached and the studio is searching for a writer to develop the script for what will be a starring vehicle for Cena, noted The Hollywood Reporter.

Duke Nukem, first released in 1991, was a primarily first-person shooter series that followed a cigar smoking, politically incorrect, macho action hero of the same name as he protected Earth from aliens.

Cena has already appeared in Daddy's Home 2 for Paramount and will be seen in the studio's upcoming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee which Bay is producing.
