The Goldfinch follows a young man named Theo, set to be portrayed by Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver), who loses his mother in a bombing at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Theo, after being taken into a wealthy family, then finds himself in the city's art underworld.

Wolfhard is set to appear as young Boris, a Ukrainian student who connects with Theo due to having also lost his mother and who introduces Theo to drugs and alcohol, noted The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, from director John Crowley (Brooklyn), is also set to star Sarah Paulson, Jeffrey Wright, Luke Wilson, and Aneurin Barnard. Production is set to begin at the end of January.

The Goldfinch marks the latest film for Wolfhard after starring in 2017's It. The actor will also next be seen in The Turning from Dreamworks, Dog Day from LD Entertainment and will be providing a voice in Netflix's Carmen Sandiego.
