Jordan Peele, Greta Gerwig to compete for Directors Guild Award

Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The Directors Guild of America announced Thursday its nominees for outstanding director of a feature film and outstanding director of a first-time feature film.

The contenders for outstanding director of a feature film are Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water, Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird, Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk and Jordan Peele for Get Out.

The nominees for outstanding director of a first-time feature film are Geremy Jasper for Patti Cake$, William Oldroyd for Lady Macbeth, Jordan Peele for Get Out, Taylor Sheridan for Wind River and Aaron Sorkin for Molly's Game.

"2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the DGA Awards, and filmmaking has reached new heights with each passing year. These nominees embody the excellence that comes to life when unique vision, craft and skill come together in pursuit of masterful storytelling," DGA President Thomas Schlamme said in a statement. "Being nominated by their peers is what makes this award especially meaningful for directors, and I congratulate all of the nominees for their outstanding work."
