McDormand garnered the honor for Best Actress in a Drama, McDonagh won for Best Screenplay and Rockwell picked up the prize for Best Supporting Actor. The film was also voted Best Drama Film.
James Franco was deemed Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for The Disaster Artist and Saoirse Ronan won the statuette for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her work in the evening's Best Musical or Comedy Film winner Lady Bird.
Guillermo del Toro earned the Globe for Best Director for The Shape of Water, which won for Best Original Score, as well.
Coco was declared Best Animated Movie and In the Fade won for Best Foreign Language Film. The Best Original Song title went to "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman.
This year's show was unique as many of the celebrities came together to show their support of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements against sexual harassment. Most wore black and many brought activists as dates.
"I'm here to be one of the women in black, talking about the fact that time is up on the imbalance of power in society. Time is up on our silence. Time is up on women not supporting each other. I'm really honored to be here and part of that campaign," Scandal actress Kerry Washington said in a pre-show interview on NBC.
"Good evening, ladies, and remaining gentlemen," Meyers said at the start of the show.
"Happy New Year! It's 2018. Marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn't. It's going to be a good year!" he said.
