Sverrir Gudnason to play Mikael Blomquist in 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' sequel

Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Norwegian actor Sverrir Gudnason has been tapped to play the role of Mikael Blomquist to Claire Foy's Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel The Girl in the Spider's Web.

Variety reported the casting news Wednesday, but Sony Pictures has not yet publicly confirmed it.

Daniel Craig played Blomquist and Rooney Mara portrayed Salander in 2011's Tattoo.

Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez is expected to begin filming Spider's Web next month in Berlin and Stockholm. The mystery thriller is scheduled to open in theaters Oct. 19.

Known for his performances in foreign films, Gudnason will soon be seen in the tennis movie Borg/ McEnroe, Vulture.com said.
