Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep star in the first trailer for upcoming political thriller The Post from director Steven Spielberg.

The clip, released Tuesday, features Streep and Hanks teaming up at the Washington Post as they fight to expose a government cover-up regarding the U.S. government's involvement in Vietnam.

"The way they lied, those days have to be over," Hanks mentions to Streep who runs the newspaper. "What will happen if we don't publish? We will lose. The country will lose."

"Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in The Post, a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post's Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents," reads the synopsis.

"The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers -- and their very freedom -- to help bring long-buried truths to light," it continues.

The Post, which arrives Dec. 22, also stars Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford and Zach Woods.
