Julianne Moore to play Gloria Steinem in new biopic

The movie will follow Steinem's journey as an activist and feminist.

Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Julianne Moore will play activist Gloria Steinem in a new biopic.

The 56-year-old actress will star in an adaption of Steinem's 2015 memoir, My Life on the Road, according to Variety.

Playwright Sarah Ruhl will adapt the book, with Frida helmer Julie Taymor as director. Steinem and Amy Richards will executive produce, with Taylor, Lynn Hendee, Andrew Duncan and Alex Saks as producers.

My Life on the Road will follow Steinem's journey from "a reluctant spokesperson" for the feminist movement to "a galvanizing symbol for equality," according to Deadline. The activist came to fame in the 1960s and 70s during the second-wave feminist era.

Moore last starred with Matt Damon in the movie Suburbicon, which opened in October. In addition to the Steinem biopic, she is slated to appear in an adaptation of the Ann Patchett novel Bel Canto.
