Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Emma Stone wore tennis whites on the red carpet Sunday.

The 28-year-old actress stunned while attending the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her movie Battle of the Sexes.

Stone, who plays retired tennis pro Billie Jean King in the film, gave a nod to the sport's traditionally white outfits by wearing a white Tom Ford dress with gold chain straps. She completed her look with white pumps and a gold clutch.

Directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris and Stone's co-stars Steve Carell, Sarah Silverman, Bill Pullman and Andrea Risenborough were also in attendance. Carell portrays Bobby Riggs, who competed against King in the famous "Battle of the Sexes" tennis match in 1973.

"Billie Jean is a pure force of nature and positivity," Stone told Vanity Fair at the festival. "I didn't talk to her too much while filming because it was too much pressure and she has all the benefit of hindsight of decades older now."

"We quickly learned that the choreography would be the most important thing, because learning how to do a serve or backhand like Billie Jean was more of an impossible dream than a reality," she said. "This was the first time where I really thought through the physicality [of a character]."

"[Billie Jean] and I went to the U.S. Open together yesterday, and she was catching and throwing balls," the star added. "[Throwing a ball] alone took me months to learn."

Battle of the Sexes opens in theaters Sept. 22.
