Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Mom-of-two Halle Berry discussed her kids Thursday while attending a screening of her movie Kidnap for moms.

The 50-year-old actress opened up about 9-year-old daughter Nahla and 3-year-old son Maceo while answering questions from other parents at the Mamarazzi event in New York.

Kidnap follows single mom Karla Dyson (Berry) as she pursues the kidnappers who abduct her son. Berry told People/EW's Mamarazzi she was immediately drawn to the project, which she said "spoke to the strength" of mothers everywhere.

"I read it and right away, being a mom of two, it hit me and I thought, 'God, this would be my worst nightmare,'" she recalled. "I knew I had the emotional capacity to bring that to life. It also was a movie that spoke to the strength and the power of the mother-female spirit."

Berry shares Nahla with ex-partner Gabriel Aubry and Maceo with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. She said she managed not to take the anxiety of her role home, but shared her other fears for her children.

"In this day and age of social media, I fear how this will affect my children," the star confessed. "They're growing up much differently than I grew up, so I'm just trying to keep up the pace with them. I want to stay part of the dialogue, part of the conversation."

"I also want to keep them grounded with my lifestyle and the way we live -- it's really important I find a way to keep them normal and down to earth and not have them be spoiled," she added. "It's a constant battle to keep their feet on the ground."

Kidnap opens in theaters Friday.
