Amy Schumer responds to Anne Hathaway 'Barbie' casting: 'She's perfect'

July 26 (UPI) -- Amy Schumer has commented on the potential casting of Anne Hathaway in Sony and Mattel's upcoming live-action Barbie movie.

"Hathaway smathaway jkjk she's perfect!! Can't wait to see it!" Schumer wrote Tuesday alongside a selfie on Instagram.

Hathaway was recently reported to be in negotiations to star as the lead role in the film based on the popular Mattel toy line. Sony still wants to release the film on June 29, 2018. If Hathaway's schedule conflicts with the release date, a deal may not be made.

Schumer was originally set to star in Barbie but left the project in March after working on the script with her sister Kim Caramele, citing "scheduling conflicts."

"The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I'm bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen," the comedian said in a statement at the time.

Previously, the plot of the film revolved around Schumer being kicked out of Barbie-land for not being perfect enough. After going on in an adventure in the real world, the main character would then return to Barbie-land with a newfound acceptance of herself.

While originally linked to the film, Schumer fought back against critics and detractors online who claimed that the comedian did not fit the iconic doll's slim appearance and signature look.

"They can scream as loud as they want. We can't hear them because we are getting [expletive] done. I am proud to lead by example. "I say if I'm beautiful, I say if I'm strong. You will not determine my story. I will," she wrote on social media in response.
