June 1 (UPI) -- Singer, actress and filmmaker Barbra Streisand has revealed why the song she recorded for The Prince of Tides soundtrack album didn't appear in the film, which she also starred in and directed. "The studio wanted an Academy Award nomination from this song," she said of "Places That Belong to You."

"I thought, 'I can't do it.' It's interesting. [Robert] Redford didn't want me to sing at the end of The Way We Were, but, there, I didn't mind doing it because I wasn't the director and [director] Sydney [Pollack] loved it. But, here, directing it and singing it? And then [acting in it?] I thought, 'Why is this psychiatrist singing?'" Streisand said.
The 75-year-old artist made the comments at a recent Tribeca Film Festival discussion about her long and illustrious career.
She is now working on her autobiography, but said she finds it difficult to mine her past for material because she doesn't like to talk about herself at length.
"I'd rather be directing a film, put it that way," she told interviewer Robert Rodriguez.
