May 26 (UPI) -- Rosario Dawson is being eyed to join the cast of Fox's upcoming X-Men spinoff film, New Mutants.
The actress is in talks to star in the film as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate an invisible bio-field around herself and is a mentor to a new group of young X-Men recruits, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The role would be the latest superhero outing for Dawson who already appears as nurse Claire Temple across Netflix's collection of Marvel shows including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. The 38-year-old also recently voiced Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie.
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams joined the cast in May as Scottish X-Men character Wolfsbane who can transform into a wolf and is struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs alongside Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy who will be seen as Magik, a sorceress who uses teleportation discs to travel and is the sister of mutant Colossus who recently appeared in Deadpool.
New Mutants will follow a young group of teenaged mutants and will include characters such as Mirage, a Native American who can create illusions; Cannonball, a Kentucky native; Sunspot who can absorb sunlight and Warlock, an alien being who can shape shift.
The film, written by Boone and his writing partner Knate Lee, is set to begin production in July and will release on April 13, 2018. Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt are producing.
