May 24 (UPI) -- Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning were all smiles on the red carpet this week.

The trio of actresses promoted Sofia Coppola's movie The Beguiled at a photocall Wednesday at the 2017 Cannes International Film Festival in Cannes, France.

Kidman, Dunst and Fanning wore dresses in a coordinating neutral palette. Kidman, 49, stunned in a nude-colored lace gown, while Dunst, 35, and Fanning, 19, turned heads in white.

The actresses were joined by Coppola and co-star Colin Farrell. Coppola said in an interview with Deadline this week that Kidman, Dunst and Fanning were perfect for the period drama.

"I just thought of some of my favorite actresses," she recalled. "When I started thinking about it, I thought, 'Oh, Kirsten could play the teacher and Elle could play the student and I would love to have Nicole Kidman -- that was, like, my dream -- as the headmistress."

The Beguiled is based on the 1971 movie of the same name, which itself is based on a Thomas P. Cullinan novel. The film centers on the women at an all-girls boarding school who take in an injured Union soldier (Farrell) during the Civil War.

"I saw the '71 film and it stuck in my mind," Coppola said. "It was kind of a fantasy [where] I'd love to do a version of that same story, but from the women's point of view."

The Beguiled opens in theaters June 23.
