May 23 (UPI) -- Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o will star in a new Netflix movie based on a popular meme.

The 29-year-old singer and 34-year-old actress landed a heist film from director Ava DuVernay (Selma) after a meme of the pair went viral in April.

"We deserve nice things," DuVernay tweeted Monday after the news broke.

Entertainment Weekly reported Netflix picked up the project with "a very aggressive bid" at the 2017 Cannes International Film Festival. The streaming service is said to have beat out several other interested companies.

The new movie is inspired by a photo of Rihanna and Nyong'o from a Miu Miu fashion show in 2014. The picture became an Internet sensation after social media users said the pair looked like they belonged in a heist film.

"Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scams," one fan wrote.

Rihanna and Nyong'o subsequently expressed interest in the idea on Twitter.

"I'm down if you are @rihanna," Nyong'o tweeted in April.

"I'm in Pit'z," Rihanna responded.
