May 22 (UPI) -- Kristen Stewart skirted the 2017 Cannes International Film Festival dress code Saturday with an edgy look.
The 27-year-old actress wore a suspender skirt and bandeau top to the premiere of 120 battements par minute (120 Beats Per Minute) after discussing the festival's strict dress code with The Hollywood Reporter.
"There's definitely a distinct dress code, right?" Stewart said. "People get very upset if you don't wear heels, but I feel that you can't ask people that anymore. It's just a given. If you're not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you cannot ask me either."
"Even four years ago, it was not even a question: you have to wear a dress. But now, it's awesome. You can't do that anymore!" she added.
Stewart stood out from attendees in more traditional gowns, including Pamela Anderson in a glamorous Vivienne Westwood dress. She also turned heads with her platinum blonde buzzcut, which she debuted in March.
"I'm doing a movie in a couple weeks called Underwater and I play a mechanical engineer that's working on an oil rig that's on the bottom of the ocean floor. So for me, it's practical," the star explained March 9 on Today. "I'm not going to be able to have touch ups once I have the helmet on. I must shave my head."
"I've been wanting to do this for a long time, just for novel's sake, just because at some point in your life you want to be able to do that," she added.
Stewart's directorial debut, the short film Come Swim, was screened Saturday at Cannes.
