May 16 (UPI) -- Humanity is on the brink of extinction in the final trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes.

The clip, released Tuesday, features ape leader Caesar (Andy Serkis), attempting to avoid conflict with the remaining humans who are desperate to recapture the planet.

"We are not savages. Apes fight only to survive," Caesar says. Caesar is also seen taking in a young human girl which makes others of his kind uneasy.

Despite Caesar's efforts, an army lead by Woody Harrelson begins to mobilize and attack the apes.

"We created them but now, we will bring an end to their kind," Harrelson says to his troops.

"Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel," reads a synopsis of the film. "After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet."
