'Get Out' director Jordan Peele signs first-look deal with Universal Pictures

May 4 (UPI) -- Filmmaker and comedian Jordan Peele has signed a two-year, first-look deal with Universal Pictures following the success of his film Get Out.

The deal gives Universal the first opportunity to produce or distribute films made and produced by Peele and his production company, Monkeypaw Productions.

The studio is looking to develop Peele's next project, an untitled social thriller that the 38-year-old is writing, directing and producing based on his original idea, Variety reported.

"Through extraordinary imagination and fearless humor, Jordan has proven himself to be a game-changer who is driven to tell stories that are as commercially entertaining as they are disruptive and provocative," Universal chairman Donna Langley said in a statement. "The entire Universal family takes great pride in his incomparable filmmaking debut, and feel fortunate that this studio will be Jordan's home for many years to come."

Peele will also be co-producing several micro-budget projects with his Get Out collaborator Jason Blum and his company Blumhouse Productions.

"I am thrilled to continue the work we started together on Get Out -- pushing the boundaries of storytelling, not only on the next film but with all of Monkeypaw's future projects," Peele said.

Get Out, released in February, was a critical and commercial success grossing more than $194.5 million worldwide.
