April 18 (UPI) -- Katherine Waterston says the short hairstyle she wears in her upcoming space saga Alien: Covenant was indirectly inspired by her Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them co-star.

"Actually, the haircut was my idea, because I had this, like, goofy bob from Fantastic Beasts. And Ridley kind of liked it," the 37-year-old actress told reporters in New York recently, referring to Covenant director Ridley Scott.

"I just thought: 'I can't be this, like, goofy, flawed witch in space. It just seemed really wrong to me.' I'd been hanging out with Ezra Miller on that film, and I really loved his dumb haircut from that movie," she recalled. "And, so, when I got this job, I was still shooting that, and it was near the end of shooting Fantastic Beasts, and, in the hair and makeup trailer, they were making wigs, just in case we had to do pickups and people's hair had changed. So, I saw [Miller's] wig in the corner, and I said, 'Can I just try that on?' And, so, I put that on, and I showed it to Ridley, and begged him to let me do it and he did. So, it's really just, I'm just ripping off Ezra."

Co-starring Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby, Alien: Covenant is the sequel to 2012's Prometheus. It is set for release on May 19.

"The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape," a synopsis said.
