Sony developing 'Spider-Man' spinoff featuring Black Cat, Silver Sable

March 23 (UPI) -- Sony has announced plans to develop a Spider-Man spinoff film featuring female characters Black Cat and Silver Sable.

The film is being written by Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter Chris Yost who is working of a script by Lisa Joy, the co-creator of Westworld, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Sony is hoping to find a director soon with plans to being production in the fall. Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing.

Black Cat, a staple in the Spider-Man universe who frequently romances Peter Parker, was introduced in 1979 through the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man. Highly-skilled and acrobatic, Black Cat, real name Felicia Hardy, takes after her father who was a famous cat burglar.

Felicity Jones previously portrayed the character who made a brief appearance in 2014's Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Silver Sable, introduced in the comics in 1985, is a mercenary who is a hunter of war criminals.

The project is the second Spider-Man spinoff the studio is planning after announcing plans recently to release a film based on the villain Venom which is scheduled to release in theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.

Spider-Man will also be starring in his own solo adventure starring Tom Holland as the iconic web-head when Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7, 2017.
