Charlie Hunnam fights for the throne in new 'King Arthur' trailer

Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Charlie Hunnam attempts to fulfill his destiny in the latest trailer for Warner Bros. upcoming fantasy epic, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

The clip, released Monday, offers flashbacks into the origin of King Arthur and how his family and his throne were taken from him as child.

Now a grown man, Arthur (Hunnam) begins his rebellion against his uncle Vortigern (Jude Law) who had seized control of the kingdom after he pulls the famed sword Excalibur from stone.

"Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy...whether he likes it or not," reads the synopsis.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film also stars Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Annabelle Wallis, Katie McGrath, and Eric Bana.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword arrives in theaters May 12.
