Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara play struggling musicians who fall in love in the first trailer for upcoming romantic drama, Song to Song.
Set against the music scene in Austin, Texas, the couple are seen creating music together and enjoying life until their relationship gets complicated with the arrival of a music mogul portrayed by Michael Fassbender and a waitress played by Natalie Portman.
"We thought we could just roll and tumble. Live from song to song, kiss to kiss," Mara says in the clip.
"Two entangled couples—struggling songwriters Faye (Mara) and BV (Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Portman)—chase success through a rock 'n' roll landscape of seduction and betrayal," reads the synopsis.
The film, which was directed by Terrence Malick, features cameos by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Iggy Pop. Other musical acts such as Arcade Fire, Patti Smith, John Lydon, Florence & the Machine and Iron & Wine are rumored to be making appearances after the filmmaker captured footage for the film at the 2012 Austin City Limits music festival Rolling Stone reports.
Actors rumored to appear include Christian Bale, Benicio Del Toro, Cate Blanchett, Val Kilmer and Haley Bennett.
Song to Song is set to premiere at the South by Southwest film festival on March 10 before opening in New York and Los Angeles theaters on March 17.
