Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Shailene Woodley says she regrets not posing in her recent mugshot.

The 25-year-old actress joked on Monday's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that she wishes she had made a tough face after she was arrested at the Standing Rock protest.

"I wish I had known that this was going to be as public as it was. I would have made, like, a face. I'm feel like I'm just looking at the person, like, 'Are you kidding me now?'" she told Colbert.

Woodley was arrested Oct. 10 at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota while protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. She live-streamed her arrest on Facebook, and later pleaded not guilty to criminal trespass and engaging in a riot.

"We are allowing Native American voices to be swallowed by the white noise of distraction," the star explained in an essay for Time. "Doesn't this sadden you, America?"

"We fail to notice. We fail to acknowledge. We fail to act," she said. "So much so that it took me, a white non-native woman being arrested on Oct. 10th in North Dakota, on Indigenous Peoples' Day, to bring this cause to many people's attention ... The day I was detained, 26 others had to dress in orange as well."

Woodley is best known for playing Beatrice "Tris" Prior in the Divergent series of movies. She confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair last week that she won't reprise the character in Ascendant given the film's move to television.

"No," she said when asked if she'd star in the TV adaptation. "I'm not going to be on the television show."

Woodley will next star in an HBO series adaptation of the Liane Moriarty novel Big Little Lies. The show co-stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard, and premieres Feb. 19.
