Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Scarlett Johansson seeks out the truth in the first offcial trailer for Paramount's upcoming live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell.
As the Major comes into contact with Kuze, he reveals that there is more to Section 9 then meets the eye and opens her mind to her true origin.
"Everything they told you, was a lie," Kuze says of Section 9 who claims they gave the Major a new life so that she can help others. "They did not save your life, they stole it," he continues.
"They created me, but they cannot control me," Johansson says as flashy action scenes play out.
Directed by Rupert Sanders and also starring Juliette Binoche, Takeshi Kitano and Rila Fukushima, Ghost in the Shell arrives in theaters March 31.
Recently, Johansson commented on the controversy surrounding her casting as the Major, a character who has been portrayed as Asian in the original manga and in an animated film adaptation stating, "I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person. Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive."
"Also, having a franchise with a female protagonist driving it is such a rare opportunity. Certainly, I feel the enormous pressure of that -- the weight of such a big property on my shoulders," she continued.
