Angelina Jolie previously played Lara in the 2001 movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its sequel, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider -- The Cradle of Life. The films earned a combined $431 million at the box office.

"That is a woman I would love to meet," Vikander told E! in July. "She made an icon of that character, of course."

"She's quite an incredible woman," she added. "I would love to meet her."

The Tomb Raider reboot co-stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Dominic West, and opens in theaters Mar. 16, 2018. The series is based on the Tomb Raider video games, with the reboot drawing inspiration from the 2013 game.

"They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013," Vikander told HitFix in July.

"That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that'll stand on its own two legs," she added.

Vikander is known for such films as Testament of Youth, Ex Machina and The Danish Girl. She will also star in Tulip Fever with Christoph Waltz and Submergence with James McAvoy.
