Jamie Dornan of 'Fifty Shades' shaves his head

Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Fifty Shades star Jamie Dornan has shaved his head.

The 34-year-old Northern Irish actor was spotted with new, short hair and a full beard Sunday in Los Angeles, E! News reported.

Dornan debuted his new look ahead of the premiere of the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker, which opens in theaters Feb. 10. The star plays BDSM-loving businessman Christian Grey in the film series.

"He's not the sort of bloke I'd get along with," he said of the character in the February issue of GQ Australia. "All my mates are easy going and quick to laugh -- I wouldn't imagine myself sat in a pub with him."

"It doesn't float my boat," the actor added of BDSM before qualifying, "I've always been open-minded and liberal -- I'd never judge anyone's sexual preference. Whatever gets people off is entirely up to them."

The Fifty Shades movies are based on the erotic book trilogy of the same name by E.L. James. The series follows the romance between Christian and Anastasia Steele, an inexperienced college student played by Dakota Johnson.

"When we first started on Fifty Shades, that wasn't a world I was privy to at all, and I soon found out there all these different tiers," the actress recently said of sex toys in the March issue of Glamour U.K.

"There are some things out there that are really grimy and nasty, and then there are really beautiful, intricate and chic toys," she elaborated. "Actually, whole aspects of the BDSM world are truly beautiful."

Fifty Shades Darker released a new trailer Saturday featuring an intimate moment between Christian and Ana. The film will be followed by the third and final installment, Fifty Shades Freed, in 2018.
